I come to clay from a craft background. I express myself in mixed media work along with my more traditional pottery forms because of my openness and hunger to experience new techniques in art and clay. The craft and art work I designed over the years helps me focus on shape, technique and a desire to explore different avenues using clay as my base medium. Many of my pieces have a natural and native theme because of my studies in the late 80's and early 90's in Native American art and crafts. I look back with fond memories of my teachers and as I was taught I honor all my relations in every facet of my life including my art work. Because of these teachings when I started pottery classes I gravitated to ancient firing techniques which embraced the four elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air. I use natural materials, bones, antlers, pine needles, feathers and horse hair to accent my pieces. Embracing and honoring nature and Earth Mother in every piece I create I will always enjoy the peace and joy it brings to my everyday life.
While living in Richmond, Virginia my main focus for over a decade had been Raku, Pit Fire and Horse Hair Pottery. My work was displayed in juried art shows and I was an active member in the art community including "Art Works Art Center" and "Crossroads Art Center" where I displayed my work.  I felt very blessed for my work to find homes nationally and internationally and I thank my customers who have supported my work over the years.
In the year 2000 my husband and I opened Moontime Dreams Art Gallery and Teaching Studio.  We represented 80 local artists in different mediums.  I also offered children's pottery classes and taught elders in long term care facilities.  Our gallery was located just outside Richmond in horse country and my personal work focused on custom vessels for horse owners. This process became my passion in clay and I was thrilled to be part of the joy horse owners experienced as they embraced a vessel made with their own horse's hair. This still remains my main focus and brings a spiritual feeling to my journey in clay and each vessel I create.
My husband and I moved to Colorado in May 2006 and I decided to take a hiatus from pottery and focus on exploring my new surroundings and most important spending time with my Grandchildren! I deleted my old web site with the intention of allowing myself the space and freedom to embrace the beauty of Colorado and welcome new possibilities within my creative journey with clay and mixed media work. During the year I enrolled in classes and once again explored new avenues with clay in sculpture and tile work. It's been a wonderful experience and my creative juices have emerged with new work and an exciting new journey I now share with this new web site. My main focus will continue in Horse Hair and custom vessels but I now embrace texture, tiles and sculpture using clay as my base medium and nature to bring forth my spirit and voice in each piece.
Thank you for visiting MoonTime Dreams, please come back often as I upload new work each month!
